Wahlstrom Financial Services recently sponsored a fantastic motoring safety event put on by Grand Motors Toyota at Southport. The event was a great imitative by the team at Grand Motors, attracting some 150 L & P platers (and parents) for an evening that was educational, informative and fun!
On October 17th young and new drivers from across the Gold Coast were given the opportunity to refresh & expand their vehicle maintenance & safety knowledge through demonstrations and presentations from Queensland Police, Queensland Fire and Emergency, Rightway Driving School, Queensland Traffic Offenders Program, Caltex Australia, Toyota technicians and other motoring experts as part of a community safety event initiative.
The attendees were able to participate in a range of practical activities that included changing tyres, checking oil and undergoing a mock random breath test. Presentations, while confronting at times, provided genuine education in relation to safe driving, drinking and texting, peer pressure and the consequences/results of poor decision making.
Importantly the presentations also provided participants with tools and techniques to deal with peer pressure in a motoring environment, and effectively remove themselves compromising situations. It was very evident that all presenters & technicians share a passion for road and motoring safety education within our community and this shone through in their energy and commitment to this safety initiative.
WFS is proud to support initiatives like this that aim to increase knowledge and awareness, and empower people to make smarter decisions in order to prevent potentially tragic consequences, and avoid becoming a statistic.
Following on from the success of this event, the team and Grand Motors Toyota Southport will be running an Over 50’s Road Safety Refresher Event from 10:00am – 11:00am on Wednesday November 27 at their Southport showroom. From current road rules, roundabouts, medication to road rage - bring your list of questions. Two Experts from Queensland Traffic Offenders Program and Queensland Police Service will have you thinking about strategies to help you stay safe - both behind the wheel and as a passenger.
